Pupils are stepping back in time to celebrate the centenary of their school.

Pupils and staff at Sacred Heart Catholic High School, in Fenham, Newcastle, will be singing hymns and songs which would have been taught to the girls over the last 100 years.

Today former pupils will join the celebrations and see the school's new technology, art, languages, maths, music, drama, library and special educational needs facilities, which opened in September this year.

Visitors will be able to look at some of the work current pupils are doing, including forensic science studies, drama and fashion.

Headteacher Pat Wager said: "We are now one of the most successful state schools in Newcastle, particularly in terms of our exam results but throughout our history we have believed in treating all our girls as individuals and teaching them to achieve their best.

"Its a very exciting time for us as well as celebrating the excellent work happening in school at the moment we are also welcoming back our girls who now work in all walks of life. …
