If there was a grandma of the year title, grateful Lisa Fleming reckons her mum would be in the running for that too.

Lisa, of Nightingale Road, Eston, has nominated Pat Bell for our Mum of the Year title.

For as well as being a good mum, says Lisa, she's a brilliant gran.

When Lisa's son Thomas was born 13 weeks early in March 2001, he nearly didn't survive, suffering a brain haemorrhage the night he was born, leaving him with multiple disabilities.

Blind, epileptic and with severe cerebral palsy, Thomas has to be fed through his tummy. He also has a shunt in his head for hydrocephalus and needs 24 hour care.

Lisa, 35, says: "My mum has been there for me from day one and I don't think I could cope with everything if I didn't have her support.

"Our son has a lot of hospital appointments due to his complex problems and, as my husband Gary works full time, my mum attends all our son's appointments to support me emotionally and physically. …
