Unoriginal it may be, but it is difficult to look past likely favourite Kicking King in the inaugural Betfair Chase at Haydock tomorrow.

Tom Taaffe's Cheltenham Gold Cup winner was pretty flawless last season, winning the King George and Punchestown Gold Cup as well as chasing's blue riband, looking every inch the star of the show.

Connections were not too disheartened by his recent loss to War Of Attrition back at Punchestown as this Grade One Chase has always been his first big target.

With the sad absence of Best Mate, there is little to stop Kicking King dominating proceedings this campaign and three miles around the flat Merseyside venue will be right up his street.

Keith Reveley nursed the top novice back to form on the level during the summer and he looked like he might be able to win the John Smith's Hurdle before being overtaken by Inglis Drever and Redemption.
