Stars have dug deep to help charity queen Lorelle Shepherd raise much-needed cash

The wife of Newcastle United boss Freddy Shepherd is bidding to conquer Africa's highest peak.

Already Alan Shearer, Steve Watson, Robert Lee, Lee Clark, her husband Freddy and Tyneside's cheeky duo Ant and Dec have sponsored her.

Thanking them and others who have backed her, Lorelle said: "People showed up at St James' Park saying they would donate pounds 100 if Alan Shearer would sign their T-shirts."

The mother-of-three has raised hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years for charity by asking her army of famous friends for cash.

Now she is determined to climb the 5,895m Mount Kilimanjaro when she embarks on a 10-day trip in February.

Lorelle, 53, is already in training and every Wednesday she puts on her tracksuit and trainers, drives to St James' Park from her Jesmond home and runs up and down the hundreds of stairs at the stadium. …
