Steve McClaren last night called for Boro to cut out individual mistakes after another two points went begging against West Brom.

Boro have not kept a clean sheet in the Premiership since August and their failure to defend well, particularly at home, is threatening to ruin the league campaign.

It's in contrast to Boro's form in Europe where McClaren's side have not conceded a goal in five Uefa cup ties and top group D.

McClaren said: "There's no difference between the team we are putting out in the Premiership as we are in Europe. But we are making too many mistakes which we are getting punished for. We have to learn to limit them. Five or six weeks ago everybody was complaining about the lack of entertainment and lack of goals.

"We have always fancied ourselves to score a couple of goals in every game, but we are needing to score three at the moment.

"We had chances to score that third goal, but credit to West Brom, they battled well. …
