Don't Blame Ramage for Defeat

Young full-back Peter Ramage has been assured that he was not to blame for Newcastle United's defeat by Everton at Goodison Park.

Ramage had a storming game at right-back and was particularly impressive in the air in the first half, but then 45 seconds after the break he was beaten in an aerial duel with Joseph Yobo when the Nigerian defender nodded in the winner.

Geordie boy Ramage was clearly still upset when he came off but assistant manager Alan Murray was quick to jump to his defence.

Indeed Murray told me: "Peter Ramage has nothing to reproach himself about.

"He gives you everything he has got every game.

"Yobo rose above him and scored but on another day he does not do that.

"The lad is very disconsolate about it and he has apologised to the rest of the team in the dressing room but I think that Peter has a great future and he is doing very well for us.

"We certainly have no complaints about him either today or in any of the other games he has played for us. …
