An angry mum fears her Christmas could be ruined after waiting more than a month for a collapsed ceiling to be fixed.

Linda Gibson, from Grove Hill, Middlesbrough, says her plans to re-decorate before the festive season have been scuppered by delays in repairing the problem.

The 28-year-old rang the emergency helpline for Erimus Housing on October 26 when rainwater starting flooding into a bedroom.

A worker attended and boarded up the hole and installed wooden posts to support the unsafe ceiling. A few days later, another worker attended to take scrapings for asbestos tests. "It's been nearly six weeks since then and nothing has changed," said Mrs Gibson.

"They are supposed to be putting a new ceiling in but every time we ring they just say the test results haven't come back yet."

Susie Thompson, director of housing at Erimus, confirmed "minimal asbestos content" was found within the artex coating.

"However, we always take precautionary measures and, as such, we will remove the ceiling," she said. …
