FORT LAUDERDALE -- In a hotel pool, Bolles swimmers offered a glimpse of why they continue to dominate the state.

With no warm-up time allotted Friday at the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Complex, the Bulldogs loosened up in the Bahia Mar pool at 7 a.m. while many of their competitors probably were sleeping.

Less than a quarter-mile down Route A1A and one day later, Bolles extended its swimming and diving state title streaks to 18 in a row for the boys and 15 for the girls, also providing the meet's only state record-breaking performance.

Bolles' boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Shaune Fraser, Travis Forte, Bobby Guntoro and Alexander Martin broke the 15-year-old record in 1 minute, 24.25 seconds Saturday afternoon. They beat the previous mark, held by Bolles' 1990 relay team, by .39 seconds.

"We just had to motivate everyone to step up, and they did," said Fraser, who won every finals heat he swam in his two years at Bolles and notched All-American times in six events during his senior season.

Fraser also came within exactly .52 seconds of state records in both the 200 and 500 freestyle. The 2004 Cayman Islands Olympian won the 200 freestyle by more than five seconds in 1:36.33.

The Bulldogs outscored Pine Crest 136 to 70.5 in the boys standings and Gulliver Prep 125 to 54 in the girls competition.

Bolles junior Caitlin Geary won the 100 freestyle state title in 51.28 over St. Johns Country Day junior Elisabeth Torres. Torres also was state runner-up in the 50 freestyle.

Bolles junior Erica Totten won the 200 individual medley in 2:06.51 and finished third in the 100 breaststroke. Bolles and Episcopal's girls went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay, and Bulldogs junior Sarah Sykes was state runner-up in the 200 freestyle and finished third in the 100 butterfly. …
