Jimmy Smith is going to have to get out of town if he wants to make the Hall of Fame.
It's time to face facts.
True, if the Jags wideout grabs four passes today, he will move into eighth on the NFL's all-time reception list.
Well, odds are that's not happening. In nine games this season, Smith has three or less catches in six of them.
And then there is the little matter of Ernest Wilford, Matt Jones and Reggie Williams. They're the future, and they're already stealing catches from Smith.
He can have all the class in the world for helping the young guys, but look at who Smith is passing on the all-time list: Larry Centers, fullback. There's no way Centers is getting a bust in Canton, which means Smith is going to need a few more monster seasons to ensure his place among the football greats.
Unfortunately for Smith fans here, he's going to have to do that in another uniform.
IS 11 YOUR LUCKY NUMBER?
For some of you fantasy players hanging by a thread in the playoff race, this better be a lucky week. Fear not -- with these picks, you can make your own breaks:
-- RB Samkon Gado (left) -- Everybody aboard the Gado Train! This week's stop is Minnesota, where Samkon will try to score another three touchdowns.
-- RB Stephen Davis -- He shares carries. The Panthers are playing a tough Bears D. Stuff it. Davis has 12 TDs this year! What you may lose in yards, you get with scores.
-- WR Larry Fitzgerald -- Turning into a bona fide stud. Without him, the Cards would probably be around No. 5 in the BCS.
-- RB Reuben Droughns -- Scored his first TD of the season last week, but he has been quietly racking up excellent yardage numbers.
-- QB Brad Johnson -- We ripped him when he took over the Vikings ship, but he's a crafty play in what figures to be a Monday night shootout.
-- Seahawks defense -- They're playing the 49ers. Somewhere, Mr. T is pitying those fools. …
