Little Leonie Helping to Ease Mum's Pain

Tiny Leonie King is back home for the festive season just weeks after fighting for her life.

Mum Karon gave her little angel a big kiss as they celebrated together.

It was a special moment the 29-year-old thought she might never see after Leonie was born with bleeding lungs and an irregular heartbeat.

Born weighing just 3lb, the seven-week-old still has a monitor attached to her small body to keep a check on her breathing

Karon, from Blyth, said: "She's doing well, although the alarm on the monitor has gone off, which shocked me.

"She's got a bit of a cold at the minute, which is causing her some breathing problems. But it is great to be out of hospital."

Returning back home with Leonie at this time of year is especially poignant for Karon, who 12 months ago, lost her baby son Leon after he was born with a rare genetic condition.

Now weighing 6lb Leonie had spent weeks under the care of doctors at the special care baby unit at Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary.

Karon and husband Robbie, 54, had been planning to jet off to Turkey for their honeymoon when her waters broke eight weeks early. …
