Pat Eddery is set to saddle the first competitive entry of his new training career at Wolverhampton on Saturday evening.

Just two months after being granted his license, Eddery is hoping three-year-old maiden Perez, who has a choice of two engagements, can get him off to a flying start.

"I'm thrilled I am about to have my first runner as a trainer and can't wait for Saturday," said the former 11-time champion jockey.

"I'm really looking forward to it and would like to thank all the syndicate people for their faith in me."

On Perez's chances, Eddery added: "The horse has been off for 16 months and it would be lovely to reward the owners, the Golden Fleece Syndicate, for their patience. I hope he will run a nice race."

Owner David Johnson is targeting a big-race double with Our Vic in Saturday's Robin Cook Memorial Gold Cup at Cheltenham. …
