A nightclub is holding an alcohol-free night to raise money for the Chronicle's children's charity.

Three thousand youngsters will be able to attend the under 18s Christmas Party at Ikon in Newcastle to raise funds for the Chronicle's Sunshine Fund.

The event is the brainchild of Gateshead events promoter Chris McConville, following a plea from his younger brothers to be able to see the region's top DJs.

Chris, 23, who runs CMC Events in Newcastle, said: "There are not many under 18 events in Newcastle at the moment, but I have younger brothers who say they want to see these DJs who work in the top clubs.

"I have run club events around the North East and in places like Tenerife since I was 19 but I had never done an under 18s event before.

"But I thought why can't it happen? I spoke to the management at Ikon who said they couldn't see why it couldn't go ahead.

"We have booked 15 DJs, names all the youngsters have heard of, and we are looking forward to a good night with as many kids as possible going along and raising as much awareness and money for the Sunshine Fund as we can. …
