Coast Guard Fireman Apprentice Samantha Alexander graduated from the Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J., and was promoted to her current rank.

Alexander, a 2003 graduate of Sandalwood High School, is the daughter of Donna Davis of the Westside and Gregory Alexander of Middleburg.

Marine Corps Pfc. Craig Cochran completed basic training at the Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

Cochran is the son of Kristie and Jeffrey Cochran of the Southside.

Navy Seaman Brandon King completed basic training at Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

King, a 2004 graduate of Wolfson High School, is the son of Shirley and Abram King of the Northside.

Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Ryan Lilkendey, the son of Linda and Alan Lilkendey of Arlington, graduated from the Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J., and was promoted to his current rank.

Air Force Airman Stephen Lorentz graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio.

Lorentz, a 2003 graduate of Englewood High School, is the son of Kim and William Lorentz of the Southside.

Coast Guard Airman Matthew Rogers graduated from the Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N.J.

Rogers, a 2003 graduate of Baldwin High School, is the son of Peggy Rogers and Victor Rogers of the Westside.

Marine Corps Pvt. Jared Zarbo, the son of Antonio Zarbo of Arlington, completed basic training at the Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C.

SCOUTING ACHIEVEMENTS

Jared Bell, 17, has achieved Boy Scouting's highest honor. His Eagle Scout ceremony was Oct. 23.

Bell is a member of the Shawnee District's Troop 382, which is sponsored by St. Paul United Methodist Church.

He has held leadership positions as a troop quartermaster, assistant patrol leader, senior patrol leader and quartermaster for the North Contingent attending the 2001 National Jamboree in Fort A.P. Hill, Va. As a tuba and guitar player, he continues to lead by teaching younger Scouts who are striving to earn their music and bugling merit badges. …
