Jurors in the trial of a former County Durham GP accused of murdering three patients will retire today to consider their verdicts.

Retired doctor Howard Martin, 71, now of Beach Road, Penmaenmawr, Gwynedd, North Wales, denies murdering patients Frank Moss, 59, Stanley Weldon and Harry Gittins, both 74. The jury has heard five weeks of evidence at Teesside Crown Court.

Farm on fire

A BLAZE which destroyed buildings and vehicles on a farm was being tackled by firefighters yesterday.

The crew were called to Lees Hall farm, Haltwhistle, Northumberland, at midnight.

Farmers in the area said the farm had changed hands several times and no-one was there permanently.
