For more than 50 years, artists have been gathering in Florida's oldest city the weekend after Thanksgiving for the St. Augustine Fall Art and Craft Festival.

The festival attracts a wide range of artists from as far away as California and Minnesota who will exhibit and sell their work, including paintings, pottery, photography, sculpture and jewelry. The St. Augustine event is a juried festival, meaning the artist's work must undergo strict scrutiny before permission is granted to show it off, according to Paulette Lewis of the St. Augustine Art Association.

The association sponsors the event, which will feature more than 140 artists and exhibitors at Francis Field, located behind the Visitors Center. The arts festival is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.

"The festival will not only feature the work of some of the finest artists in the country," Lewis said, "but we have also invited other non-profit groups to be involved in the event as well."

The festival has added The KidZone, an arts project sponsored jointly by the St. Augustine Art Association, the Cummer Museum and the Jacksonville Museum of Modern Art, to provide children the opportunity to create their own artwork during the festival.

The Humane Society will also operate an Adopt-a-Pet booth and the Council on Aging will have an informational booth available to address senior citizens' concerns and resources. …
