Article excerpt

Byline: SANDY STRICKLAND

A 33-year-old man was treated for gashes to his head after two men accused him of charging them with a knife, police said. The two men told police they struggled with the man and struck him several times with a pool stick to prevent him from stabbing them.

Police said the man was trying to leave in a Chevrolet with the lights out when they responded to the aggravated battery call at 11:05 p.m. Sunday. When they stopped the vehicle, police said, the man fell out the door, covered in blood. He was taken to Shands Jacksonville for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

A 31-year-old woman told police the suspect had been stalking her and came banging on her front door in the 8200 block of April Street. She told police the suspect slit a tire on her vehicle and the vehicle of one of two men in the house with her.

The two men, 29 and 41, told police they came outside to confront the suspect and he pulled a knife and shouted, "Come on." The men told police a struggle ensued that led to the suspect being hit with the pool stick.

The State Attorney's Office is investigating.
