A rape complaint has been rejected by the accused man as the lie of a "mentally twisted" woman.

Carl Bishop, 26, admitted he was "a bit of a Jack the lad" who bedded hundreds of women and cheated on girlfriends.

But he was not a rapist, he told Teesside Crown Court.

Bishop, of Fonteyn Court, Hemlington, suggested the woman made up the rape allegation because he rejected her as a one-night stand.

He met her in the 42nd Street club in Hartlepool. They went to his friend's house on Borrowdale Street - across the road from his own home - in the early hours of September 27 last year.

There they twice had consensual sex, then she became verbally abusive and left when he told her he had a girlfriend, he said yesterday.

He denied the account given by the 22-year-old Hartlepool woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons. He said: "It's all untrue."

He denied that she told him to stop and pushed him away, and that he turned nasty "like Jekyll and Hyde" and raped her after a violent struggle. …
