Teenager Jonathan Taylor produced a storming run to beat a big field of athletes in winning the 24th annual Loftus Poultry Run.

The talented 18-year-old, who was competing in his longest ever competitive run, won by almost 40 seconds.

Jonathan, pictured above, from Middlesbrough AC (Mandale), clocked 43min 58sec.

Victor Brudenell of North York Moors AC was second in 44min 37sec, with Andrew Jackson from Ackworth Road Runners in third with 44min 43sec.

Jonathan said: "This was a very tough race with challenging hills, but I thoroughly enjoyed it."

His biggest challenge came afterwards, when he had to carry away the winner's 20lb turkey, the huge hamper of festive fayre and a sack of potatoes.

Runners for this popular event were drawn from throughout the country, with one coming from America and another from Poland.

The weather conditions varied across the course. At the start they were cool and calm but towards the top of Boulby there was a frosty covering which did give a festive ambience for the 546 runners. …
