Cruel Frankie Pearson beheaded a live pigeon in front of horrified children in a busy city centre street.

The 19-year-old yanked the head from the defenceless bird, tossed it into a nearby waste bin and then held up the flapping torso of the decapitated bird to show people inside a nearby pub.

The sick act took place at 4.30pm on Thursday, November 24, outside Yates Wine lodge in North Road, Durham City.

Pearson, of Vicarage Flats, Brandon, was spotted by a CCTV operator, who said he felt physically sick as he watched the bird being killed.

In a statement read out to Consett Magistrates' Court, he said: "I felt sick to see this in a public place with women and children about.

"I could not believe children could see something so barbaric in a public place."

Sharon Nevison, prosecuting, said: "The man was seen to pull the head from the bird, removing it from its torso.

"The bird's wings were seen to flap as he held it up to the window. …
