Success Story for RS Cranes

Article excerpt

A new home is on the cards in the New Year for this Middlesbrough company. Business is going so well at RS Cranes that it has outgrown its Riverside Park premises.

It has pinpointed a new site in the Portrack area of Stockton and hopes to be in there by the end of February.

Joint managing director Mike Riley said: "A new year in new premises ( a new start.

"We have totally outgrown this unit. In fact we have had to rent another one the same size down the road just for storage.

"We are desperate to move to bigger premises and will be looking for recruit more people when we do."

RS Cranes has also started up a training division and is providing services on site to clients. When it moves it hopes to extend this side of the business with a training school at its new base.

Its business, which has 14 staff, concentrates on the on-site maintenance, repair and modernisation of overhead cranes and the supply, repair and inspection of lifting and material handling equipment.

Since winning the award it has also picked up new contracts including looking after cranes at steel giant Corus. Mr Riley believes it is worthwhile entering the North-East Business Awards.

"Winning the award shows your clients that you provide a good service.

"It is a good promotion for the business. It gives you a better profile," he said.

Being involved in a major project helped RS Cranes win the Services Award for 2004.

It beat off stiff competition to land a contract for the final stage of the decommissioning of western Europe's first nuclear reactor.

RS Cranes supplied, installed and commissioned the lifting and material handling equipment needed to safely decommission the Graphite Low Energy Experimental Pile (GLEEP) reactor at Harwell, Oxfordshire.
