Hairy Lemon's Sweet Chance

There was plenty of money around for The Hairy Lemon when he made his debut for Alan King at Towcester seven weeks ago and was a decisive winner of a moderate handicap for amateur riders.

Returning from a 210-day break, he justified favouritism by landing a gamble with a wide-margin success over Deo Gratias and, though a hike in the weights was inevitable, he gives the impression he has more to offer this winter.

Last season he won a similar event at Uttoxeter and turned in good efforts on his next five starts. He has been raised 10lb for his latest win but will take all the beating in the Betfred Handicap Hurdle at Warwick today.

Only four got to post for the Betfredpoker Novices' Chase, including Cornish Sett who showed the best turn of foot off a modest pace to beat Green Tango at Newbury. He will be better suited by a stronger gallop and he may not get one in this small field.

The one I like, however, is Voy Por Ustedes who hasn't beaten anything of note in his two wins but he is an attractive type who jumps fluently. He will only be five tomorrow so has the last chance here of making the most of his weight-for-age allowance.

King Bee shaped nicely on his return to the track following a 567-day absence when third to Sharp Bellene at Wetherby. No doubt he will improve significantly for the run and should make his presence felt in the Betfredcasino Handicap Chase.

Kingsbay, who had useful bumper form two seasons ago, made a successful switch to hurdling at Windsor at Windsor last November and it's disappointing that she has failed to build on that.

A chasing type, she lost her form over fences in her two attempts this term, but took a step in the right direction when reverting to the smaller obstacles at Exeter earlier this month when staying on to claim second prize behind Kings Rock. …
