Mido Takes Time out from Spurs Campaign

Tottenham striker Mido is hoping success in the African Cup of Nations will help him overcome the disappointment of Egypt's failure to reach next summer's World Cup finals in Germany.

The striker, on loan at White Hart Lane from AS Roma until the end of the season, will jet off to Egypt for the African championship tournament after Tottenham's clash with Liverpool on January 14.

Spurs thrashed out a deal with the Egyptian Football Association this week which will allow Mido ( real name Ahmed Hossam ( to join up with his national squad later than originally planned.

Mido's country are hosting the competition which kicks off on January 20 when Egypt face Libya and the Spurs ace accepts that while the timing is frustrating, he is desperate for his country to succeed.

The Egyptian international is aiming to secure a permanent deal with the Premiership club when his loan spell expires in the summer, but coach Martin Jol has always insisted Mido must score around 15 goals this season to have any chance to doing that. …
