Two young Tees Valley men have stepped on to the entrepreneurial ladder to take charge of their own destinies.

Friends for as long as they can remember, Simon Savage, 24, and John Wales, 22, have launched plumbing, central heating and tiling business Push Fit.

Simon said: "I was working away with a shop-fitting company and sometimes had to go to London, work and return to Teesside in a day. It was tiring and I decided to be my own boss."

"Now we are working for ourselves and love it. We are in charge of our own destiny and can pick and choose how and when we work.

"We are in a different place every day and although there can still be some travelling it is different when you work for yourself - and you make more money."

Simon, who always wanted to be a plumber, left Acklam Grange school and went into a five-year apprenticeship.

John went on to become a block paver but working outside in all weathers began to take its toll and he fancied being his own boss. …
