THE MEN who murdered a City lawyer had been on a "mugging spree" minutes before stabbing him to death.

Police today released CCTV images which show the suspected killers leaving Kensal Green Tube station after they had robbed a man on the platform.

Within half an hour they launched a ferocious attack on Tom ap Rhys Pryce, 31, as he walked home from the station after a night out.

The victim was selected by the muggers as "rich pickings" because he was wearing a smart suit and overcoat.

Having taken all his belongings, they then launched what police called a "gratuitous, sustained and senseless attack" in Bathurst Gardens as Mr Rhys Pryce attempted to escape the onslaught.

The pictures released today show the suspects, dressed all in black and wearing

hoodies. After they got off a northbound Bakerloo train at 11.07 on Thursday night, they saw an Asian man sitting on a platform bench waiting for a train.

They told him they had a knife and took his mobile phone, Oyster card and cash.

Detectives believe the pair may have carried out more muggings on the night - and urged other potential victims to come forward.

Less than 30 seconds after the mugging, the suspects left the station before making their way to Bathurst Gardens.

Mr Rhys Pryce left the station at 11.27pm as he returned from a night out with friends. He was murdered seven minutes later, 100 yards away from his house. It is believed the muggers forced him to hand over all his possessions. He was heard to say: "You've got everything of value."

A police source said: "It's likely the suspects saw a smartly-dressed man approaching and decided to ambush him."

A post mortem examination revealed he had sustained a number of injuries to the head, body and hands, including fatal stab wounds to the chest.

Detectives are trying to trace the exact movements of the two muggers. They want to know where they got on to the Tube and where else they had been.

They are scanning tens of hours of CCTV footage.

The mugging victim at the station said he was robbed by two black men, both in their late teens or early twenties, one of medium build and the other slimmer. …
