Party goer Dorothy Worrall is still going strong as she celebrates her 100th birthday.

Despite her grand old age, she was keen to welcome her milestone in style.

To mark the special occasion, staff at Monks Haven Rest Home in Beverley Terrace, Cullercoats, organised a party for the pensioner.

Many of Dorothy's friends and carers attended the event at the nursing home.

Dr Jacob George, managing director at Monks Haven Rest Home, said: "It was a lovely day and everyone had a great time.

"Dorothy was overwhelmed and a bit subdued with all the attention, but she was delighted to have all her friends and relatives around her."

The 100-year-old was given a newspaper published on the same day she was born, January 10, 1906, a gift bought by her niece Ann Swatten.

"She was very excited about the present and also the fact she received a telegram from the Queen," said Dr George. "I think these are items Dorothy will continue to treasure. …
