Whether biting off a chunk of a friend's ear, fleeing a botched robbery in a motor home or burning their hotel room ceiling with incense to mask the scent of pot, Beaches criminals logged some bizarre crimes this year.

Here are some of the goofiest crime reports made to the Beaches police departments in 2005:

A 48-year-old man was arrested Nov. 20 on an aggravated battery charge after he bit off a chunk of his roommate's ear during an argument about the TV.

The attack happened in the 100 block of West Second Street of Atlantic Beach. The victim told police that his roommate put him in a headlock and bit a 1-inch chunk from his left ear and swallowed it. Then he said the man picked up a beer bottle and hit him on the back of the head.

Three men fleeing in a motor home from a botched robbery at an Atlantic Beach restaurant didn't get far.

Police stopped the motor home in the 2500 block of Mayport Road on Oct. 31 and charged the men with robbery and battery for the attack on an employee at The Tree Steakhouse at 725 Atlantic Blvd. after the business closed.

A 21-year-old woman who was lusting after a Neptune Beach police officer was arrested Sept. 27 when she twice dialed 911 in Atlantic Beach to track down the officer.

The woman dialed 911 because she thought the Atlantic Beach 911 dispatcher could put her in touch with the Neptune Beach officer, the arrest report said. "He is hot and I want to hit on him," the woman told the dispatcher. After the second phone call, police arrested her and charged her with making a false 911 call.

Five men, ages 19 to 21, told police on July 1 that an escort who was hired to entertain them at a bachelor's party took off with about $300 of their money.

The men said the woman collected their money up front, then said she had to pay her driver and jumped in a van outside the hotel in the 100 block of First Street North in Jacksonville Beach and took off.

A naked Atlantic Beach man was arrested June 6 and charged with driving his Ford truck onto the sand dunes and sea oats in the 1400 block of the beachfront in Atlantic Beach.

When the 21-year-old man saw police, he jumped into the ocean, swam out about 100 yards and refused police orders to get out of the water. An hour later, he came out of the water with no clothes on.

Jacksonville Beach police arrested a 46-year-old man on May 15 after he burned his hotel room ceiling with incense to mask the scent of marijuana.

Police were called to a disturbance at the Best Western at 305 First St. N. and found the incense, which the man had stuck in the ceiling near the front door. He was charged with vandalism and drug possession.

A 24-year-old man who stole Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb's football jersey from a glass frame at Sneaker's Sports Grille in Jacksonville Beach was arrested April 27. …
