Colm Murphy faces an anxious wait over the next few weeks to see if Tony McCoy can partner his Smurfit Champion Hurdle favourite Brave Inca at Cheltenham.

The eight-year-old again lived up to his name with a typically gutsy display in the AIG Europe Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown and is now favourite to repeat the feat at the Festival in March.

But the trainer knows McCoy may be required to partner Lingo for Jonjo O'Neill and JP McManus.

"Tony knows him so well and he knows when to push the buttons," said Murphy. "It's a big advantage to have him, but I've been afraid to ask him about Cheltenham as he has his commitments."

McCoy first rode Brave Inca when scoring at the Punchestown Festival last April and has now partnered him to three Grade One victories.

He said: "He's a very good horse. He's very brave, has loads of class and is a lot quicker than most people give him credit for. …
