IT HAS been more than 20 years since a painfully handsome Morten Harket stormed into the UK charts with Aha.

After disappearing from the singles charts in 1993, few could argue the band had the staying power of Madonna or Paul McCartney.

But the Norwegian trio drew as big a crowd as Macca and Madge when they performed at HMV's flagship store in Oxford Street to promote their latest album.

Hundreds of fans camped in the freezing street on Sunday night to secure one of 500 special wristbands that would guarantee meeting the group after their performance last night.

HMV spokesman Gennaro Castaldo said: "We have been amazed by the fans' response. This is one of our most successful in-store sessions ever."

Some fans travelled from as far as Singapore, Russia and the US to see singer Harket, now 46, keyboard player Magne Furuholmen, 43, and guitarist Pal Waaktaar, 44. Many had queued for more than 30 hours. …
