Steve Bruce's ambition to lead Birmingham to a major trophy could be wrecked ahead of tonight's FA Cup replay against Reading, with up to 15 first-team squad members ruled out through injury, suspension or ineligibility.

The City chief is anxiously waiting the results of scans on Matthew Upson (groin), Muzzy Izzet (calf) and Olivier Tebily (knee) as a result of injuries picked up during Saturday's Premiership clash with Arsenal.

Skipper Kenny Cunningham (groin), Martin Taylor (ankle), Stan Lazaridis (groin), David Dunn (calf), Neil Kilkenny (ankle) and Mehdi Nafti (knee) are already on the sidelines.

Chris Sutton and Nicky Butt also picked up knocks in the defeat to the Gunners, but are likely to be available for selection.

But Emile Heskey and Damien Johnson both miss the return against The Royals through suspension, new signing DJ Campbell is cup-tied and Martin Latka is ineligible as he signed for the club after the first game between the two teams at the Madejski Stadium. …
