Woman Is Jailed for Sex Attacks on Girl, 14

A married woman who tried to seduce a schoolgirl was caught when her husband found her secret text messages to her victim.

Housewife Deborah Held, 41, of North Meadows, Ovingham, Northumberland, admitted indecently assaulting the fourteen-year-old three times over six months.

The mother-of-three also sent frequent and inappropriate text messages to the girl, whom she met through a sports club, Newcastle Crown Court was told.

Melinda Blackburn, prosecuting, said Held's husband found the texts and told a teacher of the victim in the hope that the relationship would be stopped.

But the school contacted police, an investigation was launched and Held was arrested last July.

She initially denied that any sexual activity had taken place, but later admitted committing three offences of sexual activity with a child and was yesterday jailed for a year.

She broke down in tears as she was jailed, disqualified from working with children indefinitely and ordered to register as a sex offender.

Peter Schofield, defending, said Held ( who had been assessed as being at low risk of re-offending ( had been shunned in the small community where she lived as a result of what she had done. …
