Grief is a constant thing, say parents, as new stone erected in tribute to stab victim Maria

THE parents of Maria Jones, killed by her policeman husband, have placed a headstone on their daughter's grave to commemorate her birthday.

Maria, who was stabbed to death by Ivor Jones in their Ingleby Barwick home in December 2004, would have been 38 on February 7.

But it is only now that her parents Ron and June Phillips, of Hemlington, have been able to place the headstone.

The inscription reads: "In loving memory of Maria Jones, born 7th February, 1968, died tragically on 2nd December, 2004. Best mum in the world - Good Night, God Bless."

Mr Phillips said: "Maria's eldest son begged the monumental masons to have the headstone ready for Maria's birthday on February 7.

"We got the call through the day before to say it was ready so we were delighted."

He added: "The grief is a constant thing. …
