a prolific protester against proposals to scrap doctor-led maternity services at Stockton has spoken out ahead of an imminent decision.

Campaigner Barbara Robinson is calling on health figures on Teesside to listen to the public's strong views on the controversial recommendations.

She has vowed to attend a day long meeting tomorrow when the Joint Committee of NHS representatives will decide on the Darzi proposals.

"I hope they take the public's feelings on board. There has been strong feeling against these proposals," she said.

"I think it's absolutely disgusting that children will have to travel further if they are seriously ill.

"The extra time will cost lives. This is affecting a lot of people."

Ms Robinson is angry the public will not be allowed to speak at the meeting, as only members of the Joint Committee and those presenting information may comment.

But people are invited along to "observe" the proceedings. …
