Jenas Counts the Cost of Another Late Lapse

JERMAINE JENAS today rued Tottenham's failure to extend their advantage over Arsenal in the race for Champions League football next season.

Spurs are four points clear of their arch-rivals after a late lapse at Sunderland and the midfielder warned his fourth-placed team must perfect the art of closing down games to qualify for Europe's elite competition for the first time in the club's history.

"Even though Arsenal do have a game in hand on us, a victory would have opened a sixpoint gap over them but we don't have that luxury anymore.

"But I'm not sure if you can say it'll be a two-way race between ourselves and Arsenal. Bolton are pushing but a few others will challenge for that spot as well."

Jenas was left frustrated after the Premiership whipping boys cancelled out Robbie Keane's firsthalf goal with a late effort when substitute Daryl Murphy denied Spurs the chance to strengthen Jenas said: "This draw is a missed opportunity because we could have put clear water between ourselves and Arsenal. …
