Darlington and Hartlepool both intend to be in mean mood on their travels tonight.

Quakers head for Peterborough having conceded just one goal in five games, while Pool line up at Tranmere with two successive clean sheets behind them.

Until Junior Agogo scored for Bristol Rovers in Saturday's 1-1 draw, the last player to net against Quakers was Peterborough's James Quinn, who is expected to face them again tonight.

"Our defence has been excellent lately, and we want to start another run of clean sheets," said Darlington manager David Hodgson.

"But we also want to win the game and do the double over Peterborough. They are rivals for a play-off place, and as other promotion chasers face each other, this is a big night."

Darlington will be boosted by at least one new face tonight. Neale McDermott has completed his loan move from Fulham, and the midfielder will be on the bench.

And Hodgson is trying to push through a deal for an experienced striker in time for him to play. The player in question is with a Yorkshire club from a higher division.

If Darlington can snap him up in time, and winger Carlos Logan can provide the ammunition then Darlington can cause problems to a Peterborough side that has not lost at London Road since September.

Darlington assistant manager Mark Proctor said: "We know it will be a hard game, but we are playing with confidence, and it will help us if we can get the striker in. Hes very experienced and has a good pedigree, That's what we need because we have a young side.

"We don't want to name him before the deal is done, and it may not happen in time for tonight. If we get him it will give us another dimension; if not we know we can rely on the current squad."

Darlington and Peterborough are level on points with Bristol Rovers and Cheltenham who meet tonight, and as it stands Quakers and Posh hold play-off positions on goal difference. …
