Restaurant bites

The dashing Eddie Hart (below, left), co-owner with his elder brother Sam of Charlotte Street's Spanish restaurant Fino, has developed a novel way of attracting punters.

'He can do a trick that removes a cork from a wine bottle using a napkin,' gushes a regular. 'It's almost as mind-blowing as his pimientos de padron.' A survey of the UK's sexiest chefs by Glenfiddich has infuriated foodies, Food Spy hears. 'Jamie Oliver beat Jean-Christophe Novelli, which is crazy, and Nigella topped the poll despite not being a chef,' says a friend of J-C's, adding, 'But there was some sense in that Antony Worrall Thompson came last, with 0.8 per cent of the vote.' Press blurb about Lindsey Bareham's new book The Fish Store has caused consternation among friends of her fellow cook Simon Hopkinson. It reads: 'She collaborated with Simon Hopkinson on Road Chicken and Other Stories.' 'I'm sure Simon could do wonders with chickens found squished on the road,' says a friend, 'but he prefers to roast organic ones with good provenance.' Food Spy's mobile buzzes with news from Tom Aikens, who feeds the fashionable, including Paul Smith. 'I have a new place,' he texts. Opening in September on Cale Street in Chelsea on the site of The Blenheim pub, it will include a restaurant, games room, private dining room and a basement for cookery courses. 'We're designing a glass-fronted fridge,' adds an associate, 'so you can see Tom hanging and butchering meat.'
