Attorney Facing Multiple Drug Charges

He used to prosecute criminal defendants and then became their champion.

Now Carl Kendal Zolezzi has joined their ranks.

The former state prosecutor, public defender and now private attorney was charged Friday with possession and sale of cocaine, said Maj. Keith Riddick of the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

Putnam County vice detectives and a Florida Department of Law Enforcement narcotics task force led the six-month case against Zolezzi, 58, including hours of surveillance and at least one undercover drug buy, authorities said.

Circuit Judge Edward E. Hedstrom issued a warrant for Zolezzi's arrest Friday and police stopped him driving on Reid and Fourth streets in Palatka about 4:10 p.m. They said they found cocaine and liquid methadone in his car and added charges of possession of both drugs.

Also arrested was Colin Adam Richard, 22, of Palatka, a passenger. He faces similar drug charges.

Zolezzi was expected to be released from jail Friday night on $8,512 bail. …
