OWNER David Johnson has revealed that Our Vic is to be targeted at the Ryanair Chase rather than the Gold Cup at Cheltenham.

Our Vic was the comfortable winner of the Ascot Chase at Lingfield over two-and-a-half miles just under a fortnight ago and Johnson feels that there is no harm in the Martin Pipe-trained eight-year-old waiting another year before having a crack at the Gold Cup.

Johnson, whose colours will be carried by Celestial Gold in the blue riband event, said: "On a balance of probabilities he will go for the Ryanair.

"He's improving, and with another year on his back, he'll be better equipped for the Gold Cup.

"I've got Celestial Gold and Timmy Murphy can't ride both of them in the same race."

ASHLEY BROOK may have a racecourse gallop at Exeter next Wednesday as part of his build-up for the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham a week later.

Kevin Bishop's Arkle Trophy runner-up has been off since damaging his knee when finishing second to Kauto Star in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown in early December. …
