The injection of fresh blood at the helm is driving a Tees Valley company further ahead in its specialised field.

Since elder son Craig took over father John Matthews's Eemits Communications, the Billingham-based company which services and sells two-way radios has been awarded Investors in People status and passed last year's turnover of pounds 750,000 - in just months.

Eemits has also bought out another company in the two-way radio communication field and is looking to relocate to larger premises.

When Craig, now 34, was growing up he spent a lot of spare time working in the company for pocket money, but he had no desire to run it.

He went on to gain a PhD in chemistry at Newcastle University then spent time in Switzerland, North America and Canada as a research associate within universities.

After the birth of daughter Jessica, the family returned from Canada and Craig took up a lectureship at Nottingham Trent University in 2000. …
