CHELSEA are plotting a fresh attempt to lure Andriy Shevchenko to Stamford Bridge.

The club are understood to be in talks with AC Milan over a swap deal which would see them part with Hernan Crespo, plus [pounds sterling] 35million, for the Ukrainian striker.

Even though Chelsea's interest in Shevchenko last summer was rejected, the mood is understood to be far more favourable this time.

Sources suggest the biggest stumbling block is Crespo's [pounds sterling]90,000a-week salary rather than any problems in persuading Milan to part with their star player.

Shevchenko will be 30 in September and, although his contract has three years to run, he could be attracted by the fresh challenge of the Premiership after seven years at the San Siro.

Chelsea are desperate to recruit a top-quality striker following the inconsistent displays of Didier Drogba and Crespo's failure to settle in London.

Along with Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o and Inter Milan's Adriano, Shevchenko has remained one of Roman Abramovich's top targets. …
