Give Bramble a Break Says Roeder

Glenn Roeder has warned Titus Bramble's critics it would be foolish to write him off as a top Premiership defender.

Roeder has persistently praised Bramble since he took temporary charge of the side and like his predecessor Graeme Souness, the former United skipper is adamant the 24-year-old has got the ability to become a fixture in the Newcastle backline for many years to come. Bramble is expected to make an immediate return to the starting line up following a four-week absence with a hamstring injury.

He said: "Titus has trained well for 10 days ( I'm quite happy to say he's virtually ready to play. I haven't seen anything to think he won't be available for Sunday.

"I saw him as a young player at Ipswich and he was a huge young talent. Against Chelsea on the last day of last season he was outstanding. I put a very good report into Eriksson on that day. I like him as a person and enjoy working with him on the training ground. …
