Neil Wainwright has told his teammates that they shouldn't be too downhearted by Saturday's 5-0 defeat to Carlisle.

"It hurts but it wasn't as bad as it looks," said the winger. "For a long time we were playing well, and the scoreline was not a fair reflection.

"We have to quickly put it behind us and move on, and we are capable of doing that."

Manager David Hodgson will be looking to be more competitive in the transfer market next season under new chairman George Houghton.

"We're around half-a-million pounds short of Carlisle," said Hodgson, who accepts the situation, but would relish the chance to sign two quality strikers in particular, rather than rely on loan deals as he has had to do for much of this season.

"We are lacking the killer instinct in front of goal, and that makes all the difference," he said, though he was not criticising on loan duo Andy Cooke and Jemal Johnson, who have not had time to form an understanding. …
