A Case of Success as Dionne Gets Law Firm Job

A part-time MBA gained at Durham Business School has enabled a former student to succeed in landing a dream job in marketing.

Dionne Havercroft, 33, who is originally from Jamaica but now lives near Nottingham, completed her MBA last year at the Business School after relocating from North Wales for her husband's job.

Now, she's been able to use the knowledge gained on the course to secure a top job working as a marketing manager for Doncaster-based legal firm, Atteys Solicitors.

There, Dionne will be using her new-found skills to manage a small team while spearheading the firm's marketing and business development plans over the next few years.

She has no doubt that achieving this top business qualification has enabled her to move her career on to the next level, and has given her the confidence to take on the challenge of a senior role.

It has also given her a wider view of business, finance and the world in general.

Dionne's success is even more notable given the fact she was pregnant during her studies and gave birth to her second daughter in the middle of what would have been her final exams. (The school allowed her to take the exams six weeks later).

Dionne said: "Gaining my MBA enabled me to stand out from the other applicants for the job.

"Atteys recognised that I could bring a broader range of skills, expertise and values to the post, thanks to my studies. This will enable me to move the entire business forward over the coming years as its it gears up to meet new challenges and develop the range of services it offers.

"The excellent reputation of Durham Business School and the quality of its MBA programme was also recognised as important by the firm."

The two-year MBA was one of the biggest challenges Dionne has undertaken and the support of others on the course was crucial. She made several friends who had a `tremendous' impact on her life then. …
