POLICE BRIEFS; Drug Overdose Likely Killed Woman

Following is a list of arrests and crimes reported by Beaches-area police departments:

ATLANTIC BEACH

A 35-year-old woman who was found dead in her home in the 300 block of Eighth Street on Monday apparently died of a drug overdose.

Police found several indicators of drug use when the woman was discovered about 10 a.m. The woman's co-workers worried when she didn't show up at work and a co-worker went to the woman's home and found her on a couch.

Police said they found a needle mark with blood on the woman's left arm, an unraveled belt under the arm on the floor, a spoon on a nearby table and a cap to a needle on the table. In another room, police found a cut straw and a white powdery substance on a table.

A 39-year-old woman was charged with drug possession and domestic battery after a police informant bought two pills of methadone about 6 p.m. Monday.

The informant wore an electronic transmitting microphone to the woman's home in the 900 block of Plaza Road and asked her for the drugs. The woman gave the informant two pills in exchange for $20 and demanded the informant ingest the drugs before leaving. When the informant refused, the woman became irate and began to bite and hit the informant. Police heard what was happening over the transmitter and went into the home and arrested the woman.

A 19-year-old man was charged with burglary and an 18-year-old man was charged with being a principal to the crime after a break-in at a home in the 1100 block of Rose Street.

A woman who lived at the home discovered someone got into the house Sunday night or Monday morning and stole several pieces of jewelry, a DVD player and a television. Police went to a home in the 1100 block of Violet Street, where they found the two men with the stolen goods and arrested them.

A homemade bomb in a glass bottle was found outside a home in the 1200 block of Beach Avenue.

A man living at the home heard a banging sound about 11 p.m. Feb. 19 and went outside and found several pieces of shattered glass from what appeared to be a bottle surrounded by an unknown liquid. The man told police his home had previously been vandalized with eggs. …
