Flintoff Throws Down Gauntlet to Team

England captain Andrew Flintoff has challenged his side to use their wounded pride to redress the wrongs of Delhi defeat.

The tourists let slip what appeared to be an impregnable position as they collapsed from 117-3 to 164 all out to lose by 39 runs.

Once Kevin Pietersen and Flintoff were separated, off-spinner Harbhajan Singh got to work on the lower order, aided by poor shot selection and sound Indian catching.

Ahead of Friday's second encounter at Faridabad, Flintoff said: "The lads are hurting. It is an opportunity wasted but we have to re-group ( there are seven matches here so there are still six to go.

"The result hurts and so it should but we have to look at the areas we need to improve."

Three of the batsmen, including Flintoff, were out attempting to sweep while Pietersen wasted a full toss from part-time spinner Yuvraj Singh in going for a six which would have brought up a half-century.
