Two new appointments are set to boost a department specialising in high-tech diggers for Komatsu.

Andrew Collin, 35, has been promoted from being CNC team leader and Katherine Baxter promoted from being quality assistant to Komtrax controllers at Komatsu UK.

The company describes Komtrax as a revolutionary system for excavators. Using GPS and communication satellites owners can locate machines and monitor operations and performance.

Important service and machine information is supplied by Komtrax, to make excavators easy to source for planning services, and fuel deliveries.

Andrew, of Chester-le-Street, has worked for Komatsu since 1987, starting as a modern apprentice in fabrication. He said: "I am excited about the opportunities which lie ahead for me at Komatsu.

"I have always enjoyed a challenge and to be involved in something as new and innovative as Komtrax I envisage the future continuing in the same way. …
