Jewish Primary School Raided and Set Alight

A jewish primary school had to close yesterday after it was ransacked and set alight.

Vandals broke into Gateshead Jewish Primary School in Gladstone Terrace, Bensham, before 3am and destroyed children's work.

Fifteen classrooms and an office in the three-storey building were trashed before a blaze was started in a first-floor cupboard.

School administrator David Katz said the attic was gutted and half the classrooms unusable. Yesterday, the 200-pupil independent school was cordoned off, although teachers held classes at their homes.

School officials and arson investigators spent the day at the school, which caters for boys aged four to 11.

Three people ( men aged 22 and 20 and a boy of 15 ( were arrested shortly after the fire. They were being questioned by police yesterday.

Last night, officers also arrested three youths, 16, 17 and 19. They confirmed property had been stolen. A police spokesman said there was nothing to suggest the attack was racially motivated. …
