Kevin Ball is looking forward to going head to head with his former skipper Chris Coleman when Sunderland take on Fulham at the Stadium of Light tomorrow, (writes James Hunter).

Ball spent six months at Craven Cottage, where Coleman was captain, in the old First Division after his playing career on Wearside came to an end in late 1999.

Tomorrow the former team-mates will come up against one another in the dugout, with Coleman in charge of the Cottagers while Ball is caretaker-boss at Sunderland.

Ball said: "Cookie (Coleman) is like the Scarlet Pimpernel at times because he never returns any phone calls!

"I like Cookie ( I had a great time playing alongside him for Fulham and he was a terrific captain.

"He had a bad car accident but since then he has come in and done well as a manager although, like me, I expect the opportunity came up for him a lot sooner than he might have thought.

"As a player, I had a very good six months with Fulham, it was a great experience. …
