Motorists in Gateshead who leave their cars unlocked will get letters from the police advising them to change their ways.

Police community support officers and traffic wardens who see a car which is insecure or has items left out on display will make a note of the details and send a letter to registered keeper.

Support evolves

AN evolutionary biologist from Newcastle University is one of only 25 academics to receive one of the country's top science honours ( a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award.
