Farmers Urged to Sing Own Praises

Bayer CropScience and Farm Life magazine are searching for Britain's most beautiful farm, in a competition designed to celebrate the contribution the farming community makes to maintain beautiful landscapes.

But so far there have been no submissions from Northumberland and the company is inviting entries from the county.

The Beautiful Farm Awards were set up last year.

Clive Rainbird, of Bayer CropScience, said: "This competition is not about finding a `beautiful' farm in the traditional sense of the word. It is about sustainability ( the very core of all farming.

"We are searching for farms that are actively providing protection and enhancement of the environment, have proven profitability, show social responsibility within the rural environment and meet the challenges that create consumer confidence and promote a positive image for agriculture in the UK.

"I know for a fact that there are lots of beautiful and successful farms in Northumberland. If you own or manage a farm in the area that you think fits the criteria, or you know someone that does, I would urge you to enter and help us to celebrate successful British farming. "
