Bicyclist Riding on City Street Shot, Killed; SWAT Called

A Jacksonville man died Tuesday after someone shot him as he rode his bicycle on Broward Street. The shooting prompted police to call a SWAT team to the neighborhood about two hours later after a person they wanted to question holed up in a nearby home.

Homicide Sgt. Rick Hike didn't identify the shooting victim, but said he was an adult.

The man's silver bicycle was left lying by the road at Broward and Orion streets after the shooting shortly before 2 p.m.

Authorities on Tuesday identified a man killed in an attack on Jacksonville's Westside that left another person injured.

Karonn Lamonte Bloodworth, 27, of Melson Avenue died shortly after the assault about 5 p.m. Monday on Lindsey Road. Bloodworth and a woman were injured. The woman, who is not being identified by the Times-Union because her assailants remain at large, was in stable condition, homicide Sgt. Andre Ayoub said Tuesday.

Two gunmen robbed a Jacksonville supermarket Tuesday after forcing four employees into the store's freezer and making them undress, police said.

The robbery at Rowe's supermarket at 7117 Merrill Road happened after the store closed for the night, police said.

The masked robbers took an undisclosed amount of money from a cash register before leaving, according to a Sheriff's Office report.

An Amelia Island man died Saturday after being struck by a car after falling off a motorized skateboard on Amelia Island Parkway, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Frank Morgan Jr., 46, of Ian Drive was pronounced dead at Shands Jacksonville hospital shortly after the 8 p.m. accident, the Highway Patrol said.

Morgan apparently fell off the skateboard, commonly known as a go-ped, and fell onto the road, where he was hit by a vehicle, the Highway Patrol said. …
